According to Environment Canada there is a severe thunderstorm watch for several parts of Ontario on Monday 29th Aug 2022.
The watch was issued by the weather agency on Monday afternoon, which indicated that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may lead to “strong wind gusts and large hail.”

As at 2 p.m. there was severe thunderstorm watches in place in the following areas:
- Lagoon City
- Washago
- Coldwater
- Orr Lake
- Barrie
- Mansfield
- Northern Dufferin County
- Collingwood
- Hillsdale
- Midland
- Orillia
- Innisfil
- New Tecumseth
- Angus
- Orangeville
- Grand Valley
- Southern Dufferin County
- Shelburne
While severe thunderstorm watch was also issued in the following Durham and York region:
- Northern York Region
- Uxbridge
- Beaverton
- Newmarket
- Georgina
- Northern Durham Region
There has been watches issued on Further north areas of Algonquin, in Deep River, Whitney and Eastern Algonquin Park.
there was also thunderstorm watches issued for the Haliburton area, Southern Haliburton County, Northern Haliburton County, covering Minden, Oxtongue Lake and Fort Irwin.
Meanwhile, further east, watches are in place in the Bancroft, Hastings Highlands, Denbigh, Kaladar, Bannockburn and Bon Echo Park areas.

They also had thunderstorm watches for the following areas in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes region like:
- Northern Peterborough County
- Fenelon Falls
- Apsley
- Woodview
- Lindsay
- Southern Kawartha Lakes
- Balsam Lake Park
- Northern Kawartha Lakes
- Lakefield
- Southern Peterborough County
- Peterborough City
The watches extended up to Ottawa area, including Ottawa North, Ottawa South, Kanata, Orleans, Richmond and Metcalfe.
There are also Watches for Russell and Prescott, in Barry’s Bay, Renfrew, Pembroke, Cobden, Killaloe, Petawawa, Arnprior and Calabogie.
Places like Plevna, Western Lanark County, Sharbot Lake, Smiths Falls, Perth and Eastern Lanark County are also placed under severe thunderstorm watches.
The thunderstorm warning
Environment Canada said there is the possibility of wind gusts of 90 km/h to 100 km/h, and a possible isolated hail reaching up to nickel size, and the storms are expected to hit the region from afternoon into the early evening on Monday.
The “Thunderstorms are expected to progress northeastward through this afternoon,” the watch read. “A tornado cannot be ruled out, especially over eastern Ontario.”
Large hail can damage property and cause injuries so be wear.
“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the warning read.
“Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, so go indoors!”
